Alcantara and Aitken join the foreign invasion of Africa

It’s the LG XPO (Coca-Cola dome, Northgate, 4-6 November)

Johannesburg, Thursday, 8 September 2005 – Spanish street riding sensation Ruben Alcantara and American brilliant biker Mike Aitken are the latest international superstars to sign up for the foreign invasion of Africa, to compete at the LG XPO at the Coca-Cola dome, Northgate, from November 4-6.

Alcantara, 31, has countered the best street courses in the world during his 15 years in the industry and together with Aitken, 22, are expected to pose a stiff challenge to Africa and SA’s top freestyle bmx riders, with Namibian Brian Weaver likely to be the toughest threat from the local continent.

Earlier this week, LG XPO organiser Leandro le Roux announced that International Freestyle Motocross superstars Busty Wolter and Ronnie Renner have thrown down the challenge to SA’s adrenalin rush kings of extreme sport, and have promised to take home maximum world ranking points, from the LG XPO.

Red Yamaha FMX stars Werner ‘the Flying Dutchman’ van der Merwe, Gavin ‘Mad Cow’ Cowley and Cape Town-based Juan du Plooy, on their 250cc Yamaha engines will be out to keep the SA flag flying briskly, with a host of other top motor-related attractions set to have extreme sports enthusiasts queuing for tickets at the doors of the Coca-Cola dome.

Quad bike sensation Lee Vorster will be looking to see off a classy field to prove his dominance on the local quad bike scene, while quad bike and scooter cross fans will get their chance to join in on the action on the route inside the Coca-Cola dome.

Chilling conditions can also be expected with two Swiss snow boarding superstars will play their part in turning the LG XPO into the talk of the town – as the extreme sports showpiece makes a return to the Coca-Cola dome where it made its debut on the XPO scene in 2003.
Skateboard mania will reign supreme with Will Twala, Marais Badenhorst out to keep the SA flag flying briskly against two top international stars, while five-time SA champion Dylan Victor is expected to stun the crowds with his immense skills on the trial mounting bike front.
Add in the rollerblading skills of Morgan ‘DJ Switch’ van Staden and the foot up bike technique of Brian Capper and the sky is the limit as far as action-packed adrenalin rush entertainment is concerned.

LG XPO and Xtreme Sports Show organiser Leandro le Roux said that extreme sports enthusiasts will get their chance to partake in the action, with a quad bike course, boldering, scooter cross route and rap jumping equipment, open for use for the young and not so young of heart.
“The LG XPO and Xtreme Sports Show at the Coca-Cola dome, Northgate is the home the ultimate adrenalin rush experience, with extreme sports participants and fans from SA, neighbouring countries and abroad set to partake or witness the best extreme sports action ever seen on the African continent,” said le Roux.
“Extreme sport has taken off in the previously disadvantaged markets too, and many athletes of colour such as Germiston-based Will Twala and Lucky Ngubane from Fourways, near Johannesburg have come through the ranks to become extreme sports role models in their respective communities.”

Tickets for the LG XPO and Xtreme Sports Show are on sale at Computicket outlets at R50 per day, with a cost of R80 per person allowing entrance to the LG Xtreme Concert only (Saturday, November 5 from 5pm), or a R110 per ticket per day entrance fee allowing persons into both the LG XPO and the Saturday evening musical concert event.
